How to Read Merced County Search Results

Results appear in a simple table after a search. The Merced County roster keeps the result columns short and clear so a user can scan many names at once. On the inspection date used to build this page, the public list held 764 records and paged in groups of 100.

Three columns show on the result list. The first is Name, in last-name-first format. The second is In Custody, which reads Yes when the person is held at a county site. The third is Scheduled Release Date, which may be blank, may show a date, or may show a future date that can still shift. Page links at the bottom read First, Previous, 1 through 8, Next, and Last. Click any name to open the full inmate profile in a new view.

The list is alphabetical, so common last names group together. A user searching for a person with a frequent surname should add a first name or set a booking date range. The system does not show mugshots in the result list; profile pages may carry a photo placeholder.

Booking and Classification at Merced County

After arrest, a person is brought to the Main Jail for booking. Booking covers fingerprints, photos, a medical questionnaire, and the creation of a booking number in the YYYY-######## format. Once the booking record exists, it should appear in the public Inmate Inquiry within a short time.

A classification interview takes place after booking if the person stays in custody. The Sheriff's Office uses several criteria to set housing, such as gender identity, age, criminal sophistication, the seriousness of charges, physical and mental health needs, behavior, and safety or security factors. Each person gets an Incarcerated Person ID card at booking. The card must be carried for mail, medication, medical care, programs, commissary, headcounts, visitation, and court appearances. Release can be delayed if the ID card cannot be produced.

A person may ask for a classification review no more than once per 30 days. An appeal goes to the Classification supervisor, then to the Facility Lieutenant by grievance. Medical care is reached through the booking questionnaire, sick call request forms, and direct staff contact for urgent issues. Mental health services are free.

Bond, Bail, and Court Dates in Merced County Inmate Records

The Merced County inmate profile carries bond and bail summary fields at the top, then a Bond section with line items, then a court schedule, and last a charge table. The Total Bond Amount and Total Bail Amount fields on a sentenced profile can both read $0.00 because the bond stage is over. On a pretrial profile, these fields can show the dollar value of bond posted or bail set by the court.

Court schedule fields often show "No data" even when charges are listed in the lower table. This is a known limit of the public roster. To check a real court date, look up the case on the Superior Court system or call the clerk. The charge table itself can carry the offense description, offense date, docket number, sentence date, disposition, sentence length, crime class, and arresting agency.

Note. A scheduled release date is not a guarantee. Holds, new charges, sentence credits, classification changes, or court orders can move the date. Always verify a release through the Main Jail at (209) 385-7410 or JLCC at (209) 385-7575 before relying on the date.

Information Not Shown in Merced County Inmate Results

The Merced County Inmate Inquiry is a custody and booking system, not a full criminal history database. Some facts will not appear in the public roster even when the person is in custody. Juvenile custody and arrest data is not public, so a person held under juvenile jurisdiction will not appear. Medical information, mental health notes, victim and witness data, sealed cases, expunged matters, and confidential investigative details are also withheld.

Note. The Merced County jail roster does not replace the Superior Court criminal case file or the statewide DOJ criminal history. For state prison custody, use the CDCR inmate locator. For federal custody, use the BOP inmate locator. For custody status notifications, register through VINELink California.

A person may show up in the inmate roster because of a sentence, a pretrial hold, an outside-agency booking, a state hospital status, supervised release, or another category from the housing dropdown. The roster does not always make the legal basis for the hold clear, so the underlying court case file remains the best source for charge detail and case status.
